Human Resources Manager Resume Example

HR managers are hired for the parts of the job nobody advertises: the casework, the restructure, the policy that has to hold up when challenged. This example shows how to evidence that work without breaching confidentiality, and where to put the certification and HRIS keywords that decide whether it gets read.

Summary

HR manager supporting a 450-person organisation across two sites, with 7 years in generalist roles and a strong employee relations bias. Owns casework end to end, runs the annual performance and salary review cycles, and led the migration onto a new HRIS. Used to being the person a manager calls before a conversation goes wrong rather than after.

  • Compensation and benefits administration
  • Performance management and review cycles
  • Learning and development programmes
  • Onboarding and offboarding processes
  • HR analytics (turnover, time to hire, absence, headcount)
  • Restructuring, redundancy and TUPE processes
  • Works council and union consultation
  • CIPD / SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP as applicable

Associate Human Resources Manager

Brightline Group, 2019 to 2022

How to write a human resources manager resume

State the headcount you supported and the structure behind it. HR for 40 people and HR for 4,000 are different jobs, and the number is the fastest way to communicate which one you have done.

Name the HRIS. Workday, SuccessFactors, BambooHR and Personio are screened as literal terms, and implementation or migration experience in one of them is worth stating separately from day-to-day administration.

Describe casework by type and volume, never by detail. 'Around 12 live cases at a time across grievance, disciplinary and performance' conveys the depth without any risk of identifying anyone.

Make the jurisdiction obvious. Employment law is local, and an employer hiring in a country where you have never practised will discount experience they cannot place.

Why human resources manager applications get screened out

These are the failures specific to this role: the ones a generic CV guide will not warn you about.

  • No headcount supported, leaving the single most important scope signal in HR missing from the page.
  • HRIS named generically as 'HR system' when Workday, SuccessFactors, BambooHR or Personio is the screened term.
  • Employee relations claimed with no volume or case type, which is what separates a generalist who has handled real casework from one who has referred it upward.
  • No jurisdiction stated, so an employer cannot tell whether your compliance knowledge applies to their legal framework.
  • Certification status left vague, particularly CIPD level or SHRM-CP versus SHRM-SCP, when the posting names a specific one.
  • A recruiting-heavy history presented unchanged for a generalist role that is mostly employee relations, policy and compliance.

What drives pay for this role

The clearest lever is the population you support: headcount, number of sites, and how many countries. Beyond that, specialism separates strongly, with compensation and benefits, employee relations and talent acquisition all pricing differently at the same nominal level. Unionised or works council environments carry a premium for the consultation load, as do sectors with heavy regulatory exposure. Certification matters where an employer treats it as mandatory rather than preferred, so read the wording. Whether the role is a standalone HR function or part of a larger team changes the job considerably, and usually the band with it.

Human Resources Manager resume questions

How much detail about employee relations cases can I include?
Type and volume, never facts. 'Managed grievance, disciplinary and capability casework, typically 10 to 15 live at once, including cases that proceeded to appeal' tells a hiring manager everything they need and identifies nobody. Any case description specific enough to be recognisable is a confidentiality problem and will be read as one.
Do I need CIPD or SHRM certification?
It depends on the market and the employer, and the posting usually tells you. Where it is listed as required, treat the filter as real and put the qualification near the top with its level. Where it is preferred, demonstrated casework and a clean compliance record generally carry more weight. Always state the level rather than the body alone, because the levels are not interchangeable.
Does my HR experience transfer to another country?
The people-facing craft transfers. The legal framework does not, and that is the part employers worry about. If you are applying across borders, be explicit about which jurisdictions you have practised in, and mention any exposure you have to the new one, including multi-country populations you have supported from elsewhere.
Should I put turnover numbers on the resume?
Yes, if you can attribute your part honestly. 'Reduced voluntary turnover in the operations function over two years by acting on exit interview themes' is credible. A company-wide turnover improvement claimed without context invites a question about how much of it was you and how much was the labour market.
Generalist or specialist framing?
Follow the posting. Standalone and small-company HR roles want credible breadth across the whole employee lifecycle. Larger organisations hire into a specialism and want depth in it. The same history supports either framing, but hedging across both in one document usually loses to a candidate who picked one.
